We acknowledge that Bench is founded on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Businesses need to understand their financial performance, but for many smaller ones, this means a trade-off between managing their books and running their businesses.

Our mission is to help every business owner thrive, by providing financial insight and peace of mind in one seamless platform. From creatives to chiropractors, Bench helps thousands of small business owners and entrepreneurs master their financial lives. Because understanding your finances should be three things: simple, effortless, and affordable.

We’re growing fast, and we’re looking for exceptional people to join us on this incredible journey. Check out our culture guide to learn more about what it’s like to work at Bench and read more about our business here!

What does the PMO team look like?

Reporting to our Sr Manager,  Strategy & Support Project Management Office, you’ll have an understanding of agile development methodologies as well as lean project management principles.  Since you’ll be deeply embedded in the Business Operations team, you’ll have some technical context and a systems-thinking background.  The PMO is supported by two additional Project Managers tackling cross-functional and data/analytics projects.  You’ll be working closely with several high-performing, collaborative, and technical teams as well as stakeholders within Bench. You’ll be an influencer and a key contributor in driving the success & growth of a data-driven organization supporting entrepreneurs.

What you’ll get up to:

  • Serve as a facilitator for the team, guiding and coaching participants on agile principles and practices to improve efficiency of the team
  • Coordinate, lead, and facilitate agile-hybrid ceremonies such as stand-ups, backlog grooming, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to ensure their effectiveness and alignment with agile methodologies, supporting participants in adopting Agile frameworks.
  • Collaborate with internal systems “product owners” to build and triage a backlog, supporting them in managing the backlog to ensure that work to be done is refined, prioritized, and ready for sprint planning.
  • Proactively identify and resolve obstacles, blockers, risks and issues to ensure the team’s progress remains smooth, and escalate as necessary for timely resolution.
  • Manage releases and work with leaders to ensure deliverables are up to quality standards at the end of each sprint.
  • Ensure smooth coordination of sprints and uphold governance standards to enhance the team’s consistency between promises and actions  (improve the “say/do” ratio).
  • Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with end users prior to release of new features.
  • Contribute to the development of Business Operations team ways of working, and collaboration model with other internal business partners. While also working closely with functional leaders to manage expectations, communicate project progress, and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Use Jira and Confluence to ensure that work completed by the team is documented and manage the location, access, and awareness of that documentation for various purposes across the business.
  • Create and uphold systems of governance and accountability within Business Operations to ensure that our Atlassian (Jira & Confluence) environment is maintained.

What you’ll need:

  • Project Management Experience - You have 1+ year of experience in a Project Management Office or other team delivering projects at a fast moving company on a variety of projects. OR 3+ years of previous experience, either working as a Project Coordinator on multiple technology-centric projects.
  • Jira Proficiency - You know how to get the best out of Jira software as a day-to-day user. You are very familiar with core functionality and have experience adapting and optimizing Jira for the specific needs of your team.
  • Adaptability - You have a work history that shows you know how to leverage a core project management skillset to drive action and results on various technical projects. You don’t simply rely on your own subject matter expertise to participate in projects - you want to be a project management SME! You learn quickly, can thrive in dynamic environments, and are not afraid to tackle challenges you’ve never faced before. You know how to get the best out of a highly technical team and leverage their experience to deliver high value projects.
  • Business Systems Awareness - You have experience managing or working on projects involving the major players in a typical business systems tech stack (e.g. Salesforce, Stripe,  Marketo, Tableau, web forms, etc). You have experience collaborating with Salesforce Admins, internal technology teams, data analysts and/or other technical folk on technology-focused projects. You are also familiar with using tools like GSuite, Slack, Miro, to collaborate with your team.
  • Change management experience - You have participated in projects that transformed business processes alongside systems in an engaging and transparent way that helps others in the business adapt and support the changes.
  • Collaboration - You’ve worked in complex multi-stakeholder environments and, with moderate support, can get the best out of a group of highly motivated problem solvers and systems thinkers. You lead teams with a view towards collaboration and delegated decision-making as much as possible. You are comfortable engaging and building relationships with senior leaders. .
  • First-principles problem solver - With support, you can effectively conceptualize and problem solve in a complex system of our customers, our colleagues, and our technology stack. You are energized by challenging problems, and are persistent/resourceful in your efforts to solve them.
  • Driven to make an impact - You are driven to make an impact on the world through your work; at Bench, we choose to do so by reducing the barriers and complexity of entrepreneurship by taking the accounting and financial complexity of the plate of business owners
  • Have the startup mindset - You have a strong bias for action. You are highly motivated and comfortable with change and creating clarity where there is ambiguity.

It could be an even better fit if you have:

  • Agile and Scrum Master certification (CSM, DASM, etc)
  • Advanced Jira configuration experience or Atlassian certificates
  • Experience working in SaaS in a support function like Business Operations, RevOps, etc.
  • PMP certification

What you'll get:

  • At Bench we share information freely and openly whenever possible. The salary range for this role is $64,640 - $80,800 per year, depending on experience,
  • In addition, we offer an extended benefits package that includes paid vacation, paid flex days, stock options, and full health, dental, and vision.
  • You’ll get access to  Inkblot Therapy’s  Employee and Family Assistance Program (EAP) that offers counseling and support, for you and family members, as well as professional development coaching, financial advice, legal advice and much more.
  • Bench has a number of Affinity Groups - groups of people who have shared identities and experiences! The purpose of these groups is to support underrepresented Benchmates and amplify their voices.
  • If you live in BC’s Lower Mainland, you have the opportunity to work at home or in our downtown office location, depending on your preference! If you’re interested in remote only, we currently focus our hiring efforts in the following provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
  • We provide solutions to bring all teams together for collaboration and connection.
  • Regardless of how many days you decide to visit the office, you’ll have access to our Home Office Setup Fund to ensure that you have everything you need to work comfortably from home, from day one.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to work from somewhere other than your home province for up to 90 days in a 12-month period.

Everyone has their own unique talents. Even if you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications outlined above, tell us why you’d be a great fit for this role in your application.

We believe that unchecked biases disproportionately impact the most marginalized people in society—including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+ people, immigrants, and people with disabilities. We strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or other marginalized communities because we believe that without you, we are all less.  If you are selected for an interview and require support during the process, including disability accommodation, we'll give you the opportunity to tell us when we contact you.
